With over 10,000 students across 19 campuses, Waterloo Schools remains one of the largest districts in the state of Iowa. We pride ourselves with having a strong focus on creating individual pathways to success for all students through student enrichment programs such as Life Labs, the Waterloo Career Center, Success Street, and more. Our goal is to provide students with the support they need to work toward their dreams. Whether they’re looking to continue their education or find a fulfilling career after graduation, our goal with every student is to provide them with a diploma and a plan.
The Waterloo Career Center (WCC) provides Career Technical Education (CTE) for not only Waterloo Schools high school students, but students in surrounding districts. One of the only facilities like it in the state of Iowa, the WCC offers over 18 career paths and counting. Students who participate in the career center experience real world training with industry experts, giving students hands-on opportunities to learn in labs that are built with professional-grade equipment to simulate real workplace environments. The center exposes students to a variety of career paths offering internships, apprenticeships, free college credit, and more.
Whether you would like to take one course or spend your entire day at the Waterloo Career Center, we invite you to learn more about the wide variety of career offerings. Can you see yourself here? We can! With us, the future is now! Explore your future with the Waterloo Career Center.

First grade at Irving Elementary is full of learning adventures for Sawyer! 🐱📚 A quiet and thoughtful friend, Sawyer shares why family means so much to her: "I love my little family. Family is really important to me." As an only child, she loves going on special trips—especially to Disneyland!
In class, Sawyer is all about reading and writing, especially when it's about animals. “We’re doing a reading workshop in class, and it’s so much fun! I like reading about animals, especially cats.” If she had a cat, she’d name it Star because “it’s such a pretty name.” 🌟
Sawyer, we're so glad you're having a great year of learning and exploring in first grade! #WaterlooProud #InfinitePossibilities #IrvingFalcons ... See MoreSee Less

Celebrating our amazing WCSD stafff
The history of Native communities in the U.S. includes devastating chapters of displacement, loss, and forced assimilation. In the 1800s and early 1900s, Indigenous children were removed from their homes and placed in boarding schools, severing them from their cultural heritage. Yet, many Native nations resisted, preserving their traditions and fostering community resilience. “Through breaking bonds to culture, they [broke] bonds to one another,” explains historian Doug Kiel.
Today, more than 3.7 million people identify as Native American and 574 federally recognized Indian Nations continue to thrive. As we honor Native American Heritage Month, we commit to celebrating the vibrancy of Native culture and supporting its legacy for future generations.

Kason, a 5th grader at Irving Elementary, brings hard work and heart to everything he does!
“I am awesome because I’m a hard worker, which I get from my mom. She’s my #1 fan, and I’m hers!” Kason loves drawing, reading, and helping friends—it’s a chance for him to learn new things, like discovering different lessons in ST Math.
With dreams of becoming an animation designer, Kason’s book would be a fun biography of his achievements and everything he’s learned. 📚✨ And his favorite part of Irving? The family nights, where he can show off his school with pride. “I love everything about Irving!”
Way to go, Kason!

🌟Infinite Possibilities at Irving Elementary with our Title 1 Teacher!
We’re thrilled to spotlight Brenda Lage, a dedicated educator at Irving Elementary, who understands the power of patience, encouragement, and the joy of discovering new passions. As a student, learning wasn’t always easy for her, but with the help of a few special teachers, she found her own love for reading and math—a journey that inspired her to give back in the same way. “Those teachers changed my life’s trajectory. I can only hope that I can offer the same opportunities to others.”
Today, she shares that joy with her students by making learning fun and fresh! One of her favorite moments? Seeing a child light up when they find a book they truly enjoy and feel inspired to keep reading. Another cherised moment is watching the excitement of students at 5th grade graduation.
Her goal this year? To keep pushing her own boundaries and learning, aiming to be a stronger teacher for her students and to build on a foundation of growth and exploration. She’s excited to create Infinite Possibilities for every child who walks into her classroom, preparing them for a bright future. "I love helping a student find a book that they love. Tapping into the joy of a story may be the first step in creating a life-long connection with literacy."
Let’s give her a big thank you for her incredible dedication to our students and the journey they’re on! #Challenge #InfinitePossibilities #WaterlooProud Irving STAR Falcons ... See MoreSee Less
