Manufacturing 101 is a pre-apprenticeship program where participating candidates receive rigorous technical content based on industry standards along with the soft skills during one semester of classroom and hands on training in Safety, Quality, Manufacturing Processes, Production and Maintenance. Targeted at Waterloo High School juniors and individuals needed to upskill to be readily prepared for the workforce, they also participate in a semester/summer of on-the-job-training at TechWorks or with a local company.
Upon completion of the program participants receive a Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) from the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) .
Creating a qualified pool of candidates reduces hiring and training cost as well as turnover. Increasing technical skills in your workforce is a prerequisite for competing globally. Additionally, it is widely known that companies with more diversity have increased productivity. Partnering with Waterloo Schools, one of the most diverse districts in Iowa, increases the amount of diverse candidates for companies’ talent pools.
