Waterloo West Academic Hall of Fame
Mission Statement:
It is the goal of the West High Academic Hall of Fame to recognize West High alumni and staff that have distinguished themselves by their contributions in their field of work/study, or to their communities. By honoring these positive role models, we hope to inspire current students in their areas of studies as well as in their extra-curricular opportunities.
Process:
Each year, the Hall of Fame committee will induct up to five honorees, including only one former West staff member to the Hall of Fame.
Categories:
Alumni Contribution- This category will honor former students of Waterloo West High School for their contribution to society, for their academic achievements, and for enhancing the reputation of our school. Former students must have graduated from West High with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average and must have completed a post-secondary degree program or have received meritorious commendations for unique contributions to their vocation. Nominees must be 25 years of age to be considered for the Hall of Fame.
Former Staff Member Contribution- This category will honor former West High staff members for their contribution to society, to West High education and for enhancing the reputation of our school. Staff members must be five years removed from service at West High to qualify for the Hall of Fame.
Nominations:
Nomination forms will be available in the West High Student Services office and on the West High website. An article will be put in the Waterloo Courier and on the West High website each January in order to solicit nominations from the public. Anyone may submit a nomination form. All nominees must meet the categories listed above. A nomination form will be good for two years.
Nomination Process:
Each Hall of Fame committee member will review the nomination forms, using a blind evaluation process. The committee will meet to discuss each nomination and select the honorees to be presented to the Academic Booster Club membership. The Academic Booster Club will then ratify the committees’ choices with an affirmative vote. The choices will then be presented to the West High Site Council for their approval.
Hall of Fame committee:
The committee will consist of the president of the West High Academic Booster Club, the West High staff liaison to the West High Academic Booster Club, a member of the West High administrative staff and up to four more committee members appointed by the president of the Booster Club and approved by the West High principal. Hall of Fame committee members must be members of the West Academic Booster Club. Applications to serve on the committee will be accepted.
Hall of Fame:
The Hall of Fame is located in the foyer of the West High auditorium. Inductees will be honored during a Homecoming Week luncheon and during the Homecoming football game. A plaque will also be placed in the Hall of Fame display cases on behalf of each inductee.
